Types of care:
Long Term care, Respite care and Day care

Long-term Care

Why should I choose permanent residential care for my loved one?

The majority of the residents at The Shelley are permanent residents who call us their home. This creates an extended family atmosphere and a community of older people who thrive and enjoy their time together.

Moving your loved one in permanently can give you and them certainty over their future, particularly if they are finding looking after themselves in their own home (or yours!) more challenging. It can also take a weight off your mind and allow you to enjoy precious time with them when you visit.

How much does permanent residential care cost and how can I fund this?

The weekly fees at The Shelley depend on a variety of aspects which are specific to the room and building. Current weekly fees are between £1,350 - £1,600. Fees are complimentary of daily newspapers, toiletries, weekly hairdressing and chiropody. You can see our current vacancies HERE.

Affording longer-term residential care is an important consideration when making such a decision. Very often the person will have the equity in their home to eventually consider selling this. Naturally, this will take time and needs to be factored into the existing savings they have. The local authority will also step in on a “12 week disregard” basis to fund the person’s care whilst the property is being sold. This ensures that care is not delayed by a lack of savings.

What is the process to move into The Shelley if I decide to?

Once you have viewed the home and the room you would like to move into, we would carry out an in-person pre-assessment to find out the needs and preferences of your loved one. This prepares us for them moving in and to ensure that the care and service we initially provide is as person centred at possible. A date is then agreed for moving in and we look forward to your stay!

Am I able to bring in my own personal effects and furniture?

Definitely! We encourage permanent residents to bring as many of their own personal effects and furniture in with them to settle them into their new surroundings and home.

Respite Care

Why would I choose respite care?

There could be a whole host of reasons why your family member would come for a short respite stay. It could be to allow family to go away whilst having the assurance that they will continue to be well looked after. You could be looking for convalescence care after an operation or hospital stay. Often residents come on an initial stay to experience what a residential home is like. Some enjoy their stay so much that they stay permanently, especially when considering the isolation of living at home on their own.

Whatever the reason, coming for a respite stay at The Shelley allows your loved one to enjoy all the facilities and environment of the home whilst on a “mini holiday”.

Is there a minimum stay with respite care?

We have an initial minimum respite stay of ten days and are happy to shorten this to seven days for future stays. We do not guarantee a specific room for advance respite bookings, but we do try to satisfy your room preference(s) as much as possible.

How much does respite cost?

Respite rates depend on a variety of aspects which are specific to the room and building. Weekly respite fees are between £1,450 - £1,700, which are higher than permanent weekly fees due to their temporary nature. Fees are complimentary of daily newspapers, toiletries, weekly hairdressing and chiropody. You can see our current vacancies HERE.

Am I able to extend my respite stay if I wish to?

It frequently happens that families, or the resident wish to extent their stay for a period of time. We request that stays are extended by a minimum of one week, unless it is that you purely need one night longer before you pick them up.
